Circle Painting - Year 5

I found this inspiring and engaging activity on Barbara's Thought of the day Blog.
The idea is derived from Hiep Nguyen's website: http://www.circlepainting.org/.   It's a circular collaborative painting which involved the entire class working on an art piece at the same time.  Every child had a cup of paint and a paint brush, including me.  I started painting a circle and immediately after one of my students added to what I had painted.  There was no hesitation.  Everyone joined in.  I found that some were reluctant to do their own thing.  My response was to be free and to always keep in mind the circular motion in the painting technique.  The children absolutely loved it.  We worked as a team and I heard heaps of positive conversations.  Lots of reflecting and responding on what others were doing.  An excellent and worthwhile activity.  Thank you Barbara!  I'm planning to display this masterpiece in this year's Art Show.... I can't wait to see parents' reaction....

Melbourne Airport Christmas Banner competition - 2009

We had a go at entering the Melbourne Airport Christmas Banner competition and won.  I couldn't believe it!  The year 1 students were so excited.  The theme was multiculturalism.  So I thought of angels from around the world.  The students were given angel templates.  We used beautiful papers with cultural prints.  Every angel was holding a flag from around the world.  It now lives in our assistant principal's office.

First ever blog!

Well, I've been viewing so many Art Blogs in the USA.  What an inspiration it has been to me to view so many wonderful art ideas.  I have certainly used lots already.  Well, to start off I thought I would add some of the wonderful artwork my children created at last year's art show which was a great success.  I hope you can also get some ideas from my art room in down under and please excuse me if my blog is a little simple...
