Prep - Self Portraits

The Preps have been busy painting their self-portraits. We have been focusing on trying to make our portraits look realistic. We used skin colour paint for our faces. For this project, the students didn't mix colours.

Although some students said: "But Mrs P, my skin is brown!" So we mixed appropriate colours.

What a great effort by all. Well done Preps!

Modigliani Portraits - 3/4

My 3/4 students are travelling well in the development of their Modgliani portraits. They are looking amazing and I am so very proud of their achievements. Can't wait to display them!

Modigliani Portraits - Year 3 and 4

We use our Visual Diaries to plan our art works and to record facts about what we are learning at hand. Our learning intention was to learn how to draw a Modigliani inspired portrait. Before the students began drawing, we discussed Modigliani's style. They noticed that the portraits had tilted heads, eyes with no pupils, long noses, long necks, small mouths and slender shoulders. I guided students on how to draw a Modigliani portrait. Most results were wonderful considering this was their first attempt. I can't wait till next week when we will decide what medium to use.

Beautiful Christmas Tree - Year 5

Last Art session with a Year 5 class. Shakira painted this beautiful tree using metallic paints. I love her technique. It took her around 40 minutes. Amazing artwork Shakira, well done!

Egyptian Sarcophagi - Year 3/4

Found this great idea on someone's blog. Sorry, I can't remember who. It took 3 sessions in total. First we applied paper mache, then painted the bottles white and then the students used permanent markers to draw their designs. We used metallic paints. Prior to drawing, the students studied and viewed Egyptian masks and other sarcopaghi designs. The results were awesome!

Oh Christmas Tree...

These beautiful Christmas trees were created in 45 minutes. The children were encouraged to paint the Christmas tree a little different. They painted diagonal brush strokes using vibrant watercolour paint. They were also encouraged to use coloured markers to draw presents and Christmas lights and of course glued glitter on. They were totally engaged and were very proud of their Christmas trees. Well done Preps!

We received a package today in the art room!

How exciting! We just received a package of ATCs from Dolvin Elementary School, Georgia. My 3/4 students were so very excited to receive a card each and learn about a school from the U.S. A. We viewed the website and we discussed similarities and differences. The ATCs depicted the season of autumn. We discussed that in Australia we don't use the word fall but rather autumn. We also discussed that our seasons are at different times of the year. The students wanted to know what time it was in Atlanta. So we discovered that on Wednesday at 10.30 a.m. in Melbourne, in Georgia it was 5.30 p.m. Tuesday night.  I would like to thank Hope Knight and the lovely students from Dolvin Elementary School.
So, here are our ATCs ready to be posted. We have focused on Ancient Egyptian art this term, so we decided to stick to the same theme. Check them out.... they look fantastic!
